About our territory

Filantropis is based in Chajul, a municipality in the department of Quiché, Guatemala, and extends its work throughout the Ixil region, comprised of the municipalities of Nebaj and San Juan Cotzal. This predominantly indigenous area is characterized by its rich culture, ancestral identity, and strong community organization. At the same time, it faces structural challenges such as limited access to educational opportunities, formal employment, digital connectivity, and financing for local businesses. The Ixil region was one of the hardest hit during Guatemala's internal armed conflict, leaving historical gaps in economic development and access to services. Today, the territory possesses enormous productive potential, emerging young leadership, and a growing participation of women entrepreneurs. In this context, Filantropis works to strengthen capacities, promote entrepreneurship, and foster sustainable opportunities from within the territory itself.
