A Pioneer in Science: Can a woman from Chajul be an expert in physics and mathematics? María Elicia proved that the answer is a resounding YES. She was one of the first five Filantropis scholarship recipients in 2012 and today is one of the very few certified teachers in these fields in her community.
Transforming Local Education:
● Real Specialization: Elicia broke the cycle of generalist education, bringing scientific rigor to the Chajul Night Institute and organizing the town's first science fair.
● Youth in Charge: In addition to her teaching work, Elicia coordinates the Administrative and Financial area of Filantropis, breaking the prejudice that young people cannot manage complex organizations.
● The Legacy of a "Change Agent": For Elicia, being a Change Agent means not settling for the status quo. Today, she especially inspires the girls of Chajul to not be afraid of numbers and to see university as an achievable goal.
